Daisy Side Table Graham & Green

I do love that simple daisy shape which is very Mary Quant and a bit Orla Kiely in style. This brass side table will make a change from all those rectangles and squares and provide some personality in a space. It's a piece I could imagine owning for years and years. If you're tidy it would be a good bedside table, too, in which case I would spring for a pair.
Antique Pedestal Side Table John Lewis

It’s always a good idea to introduce something unexpected into your interior scheme and this table, which is such a traditional shape, does exactly that when you realise it’s made from metal.
Holkham Side Table The White Company

This comes in white as well as black and works well if you don’t have too much space. Tuck it at the end of the sofa or in an empty corner with a plant on. Nothing says spacious and luxe like an empty corner with a plant in. Even if space is tight the idea that you would dedicate an entire corner to one plant of vase of flowers tricks the eye into thinking there is more space than there is. Just don’t lean on this one it might topple.
Iron Console Table Cox & Cox

This works well in a hall, should you have room (I don’t) but is also good behind a sofa if you have a wide or open-plan space. It’s made from iron so will introduce another material into the space and mean you don’t have to worry about too many different colours of wood fighting with each other.
Rattan-seat bench H&M HOME

H&M has a small collection of furniture that sells out fast so grab it when you see it. This is a simple design that will work in any room of the house - great in a hall or at the end of a bed - as the cane top brings a lightness to it and means it won’t dominate the space too much.
Ercol Lugo Console Table Barker and Stonehouse

Perfect for a narrow hall, or small sitting room, this will hold books or shoes underneath and allow you to add display items or drinks on the top. You'll never go wrong with this classic British brand.
Farley Console Table M&S

I’m a huge fan of a console table as they are so versatile. Use them in the hall as nature intended but if you haven’t got room there (I haven’t) you might be able to put one behind the sofa with a couple of lamps on, or use it as a room divider in an open plan space (see the blog https://www.madaboutthehouse.com/zone-open-plan-space/). They can also work as dressing tables, and – when there isn’t a shelf along the bottom – double up as a desk and/or a dressing table.
Enameled Metal Tray Table Barker and Stonehouse

There’s something rather pleasing about this extremely glossy top and vintage brass base. If you feel like your room has a lot of different woods (including the floor) this is a good way to mix it up a little and bring in more textures and materials.

Supply lines were massively disrupted by the pandemic but John Lewis often has things in store that appear sold out online. This is from their affordable House range and is a great side table or bedside table or even in the corner of the kitchen with bottles on the bottom and glasses on the top. It’s always cocktail hour somewhere, right?

A great design that looks like a classic from a distance (didn’t your Grandmother have one that you were always afraid of knocking over?) until you approach and realise that it’s metal and comes in a variety of colours. A great way to modernise a classic.
